Post-Convention Thoughts: Life Without BBYO?
As I closed my eyes to sleep after an amazing Fall Convention, I imagined a world where I had never joined BBYO. A world where I got that first recruitment text but decided to ignore it. In this world, I would never have attended my first-ever chapter wing night and missed the chance to meet several amazing people. I never would’ve experienced CLTC or Kallah or separates and cheer circle. I never would’ve held a board position and learned how to be a leader and role model for the younger generations of Jewish teens. In a world without BBYO, I never would have been able to truly find myself.
If you’re reading this article, there is a high chance you’re very involved with BBYO. You’ve likely interacted with international BBYO and, of course, heard of The Shofar. If you’re this involved, I think it’s safe to say that BBYO holds a very special place in your heart and has made a significant impact on your life. Whether being a part of this organization has made you proud to be Jewish, let you be your true, authentic self, served as an escape from your other responsibilities, or all of these things, we all know that a life that lacks BBYO would not nearly be as fulfilling as the one you are living now.
Take it from me: I am currently Greater Atlanta’s 95th Regional Moreh, attended two summer programs, and occupied numerous chapter board positions. I have taken advantage of nearly every opportunity that BBYO has thrown at me. I am writing this article for the sole purpose of getting you, the reader, to become more invested in BBYO. It is never too late to engage with BBYO, whether on the chapter level, regionally, or internationally. Run for chapter board. Steer a convention. Go to International Convention. There are countless opportunities for involvement. You won’t regret it.
