A Celebration of Jewish Unity, Shabbat, and Global Connection
And just like that, a month has passed since BBYO International Convention 2025 in Denver, Colorado. From the electrifying energy of Opening Ceremonies to dancing the night away at the unforgettable Galantis concert, BBYO members experienced an action-packed weekend filled with connection and excitement.
But above all, the one thing that united over 3,500 teens at this convention was their shared Jewish identity. Jewish teens from more than 60 countries came together to embrace their heritage, express pride in their Judaism, and celebrate Shabbat as one global community.
A highlight of my IC 2025 was talking to teens from around the world, learning about their region’s traditions, their country’s culture, and how they celebrate Shabbat in their community. I love learning about all the different ways people connect with their heritage and the unique rituals that bring them together.
These interactions deepened my understanding of what it means to be part of a global community. I left with a renewed sense of connection and a desire to explore even more about our shared Jewish identities.
Shabbat at IC is always a highlight because it offers a unique chance for teens to experience a meaningful, pluralistic Shabbat in a way that is personal to them. From a range of Kabbalat Shabbat services—whether traditional, musical, meditative, or social justice-focused—to a communal Friday night dinner filled with friends, IC 2025 was a true testament to the beauty of Jewish diversity. Teens, regardless of their level of observance, were able to connect with their Judaism in a way that felt comfortable and uplifting.
During Friday Night Services, I had the opportunity to lead “Shabbachella,” a Kabbalat Shabbat experience centered on music and Jewish artists. After months of planning and scripting, it was incredible to guide teens through a service that was both meaningful and engaging. Alongside my partner, Mila from Pacific Western Region, we captivated the teens by incorporating popular songs and using egg shakers to enhance the excitement. This experience was truly memorable, and if you are considering applying for IC Steering, I highly recommend choosing the Shabbat Committee!
Another major theme of the weekend was the connection to Israel. With a variety of speakers and panels, teens had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about Israel’s culture, history, and current events. IC 2025 fostered a space where teens could express their thoughts, ask questions, and learn from one another. IC 2025 emphasized the importance of global Jewish unity, giving members the chance to hear from Israeli leaders, activists, and peers.
Beyond Shabbat and Israel, IC 2025 reinforced BBYO’s commitment to being a vibrant, inclusive Jewish space. The convention showcased the richness of Jewish traditions from around the world, providing a platform for diverse Jewish voices and backgrounds. This environment of inclusivity and excitement made the convention a place where all could celebrate their Judaism freely and proudly.
International Convention was more than just a weekend of fun, reuniting with friends, and experiencing the beauty of Denver; it was a gathering that strengthened Jewish identity and fostered lifelong friendships. The memories of Shabbat services, inspiring speakers, and late nights with international friends stay with attendees long after they leave Denver. As the BBYO community looks ahead, one thing remains clear: IC 2025 was yet another powerful reminder of the unity and joy that come with being part of the Jewish people.
